At Design Academy Eindhoven, she is Head of the Master Program and part of the Management Team since 2020. Following a bachelor in design, in 2024 she finished her Executive MBA at TIAS School for Business and Society. With her studio, Ilse performs research, initiates design projects and develops commissioned work both independently and in collaborations with other disciplines such as writers, social scientists and fellow designers. Text and image work complementary and have a lot of influence on tone, colour and framing. The way we perceive texts and images is changing though and news seems to become more sensational. Sensational writing creates a stage for an ideologic message. That is dangerous within the context of news media. News coveres the message of a group, not an individual, therefor the individual is quickly tainted with a unfitting label. By presenting the identity behind the artisan the platform aims to create a more realistic image of the artisan and creates an opportunity for them to stage themselves in the European market.For the last 7 years, Greece and it's capital Athens have been gripped by financial crisis. After living for 7 months in Athens during her internship in 2016, Ilse Meulendijks was surprised to see that small businesses and craft shops were not just surviving, but staging a comeback. Locals realize that the economic crisis would not be solved by buying from multinationals, rather, it is better to spend the little money they have at smaller businesses. Book for Sale thus focuses on mid to high segment creatives, creatives that want to make beautiful, self published books that allow them to take control of the publishing process.With the digitalization of books, printed books have become more important in the visual arts, being more than a carrier of a narrative, but a desirable object, with the outer cover and choice of material representing the work inside. However, individuals wanting to create a small edition of books, quickly end up dealing with larger multinational companies where choice is limited and the quality generic. The content of these formats is changeable, but the three themes - responsibility, fear and perspective - are approached through the elements of scale, repetition and perspective. By retelling news stories in a visually appealing way, these autonomous wallpapers become discussion pieces, triggering the viewer to become curious about its content and dive deeper into its topics. They react to the current mass media platform by deconstructing the articles and questioning the truth behind them. They are being critical of the words and clichés used by journalists by translating these words into visuals.
